Lauren Broadbent-Richards

Contemporary

Lauren Broadbent Richards is an experienced choreographer, dancer, and teacher based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Lauren received collegiate modern dance training from the University of Utah. During her time there, early on, she was advanced to upperclassmen's technique levels, her choreography was performed in many shows, and she was chosen to be on the Student Concert Committee. In 2018, Lauren performed choreography from the world-renowned director and choreographer Anouk Van Dijk in the University of Utah's School of Dance Gala. 

Lauren is elated and proud to be the founder and director of Altitude Dance Company, a professional contemporary dance company in Salt Lake City starting its third season. This professional dance company has performed a new full-length show each season, and this last winter, they collaborated with Repertory Dance Theatre for their show Emerge. Notably, in 2019, Lauren was selected to choreograph and direct her piece 8.6.45. for Salt Lake City's BRINE 5 show at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center. She also collaborated with Son Lux in a videography project to help promote their album, Brighter Wounds. 

Lauren graduated from the University of Utah in 2021 with Magna Cum Laude Honors. She has a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, a Modern Dance minor, and a Nutrition minor. Lauren teaches and choreographs for dance studios and guest choreographs and teaches master classes for many schools in the Salt Lake City area, including Skyline, Highland, West, and Olympus High School.

Lauren primarily trained at The Winner School of Dance in Salt Lake City, Utah, and supplemented her dance training by participating in many dance opportunities around the United States. For multiple years, Lauren attended the Rockettes Summer Intensive and the Joffrey Ballet Intensive in New York City, and attended the Ballet West Summer Intensive. In addition, she participated in Olympus High School's Dance Company, where she was a captain her senior year and represented Olympus High School as the 2016-2017 Sterling Scholar for dance, advancing to be the Utah 1st runner-up.  In 2019, she was an apprentice on Divinity Dance Company, and in 2018, she attended SALT Contemporary's Link Dance Festival.

Lauren has a passion for teaching and choreographing and loves helping her students develop their individual, unique qualities as dancers and people. She loves the joy dance brings and how it can tell stories that connect us.
